Each year the North Carolina Forestry Association also with its partners, the North Carolina Forest Service and the NC Sustainable Forestry Implementation Committee, deliver three regional workshops.  These workshop are designed to educate teachers about forestry and the importance of forestry to the state of North Carolina.  They also include Project Learning Tree curriculum that help teachers be able to translate the forestry information into practical classroom lessons that fall in line with NC State Educational Standards.  We are looking to fill out workshops this year with 120 educators.  The cost is only $50.  The NCFA and its partners pay for all food, lodging, and transportation once at the workshop.  We also pay for a fun activities at each workshop for the teachers. We are looking for teachers from 3rd through 12th grade, but all teachers that have never attended the workshop including non-traditional educators are welcome.  Educators will also receive 30 CEU contact hours for attending and will take back a wealth of knowledge to share with students and colleagues.  The dates for the workshop on are the attached flyer.  Our application period closes on April 15th, 2017.  The Mountain Workshop is full at this time.  Please act fast.   Please sign up now to take advantage of this great workshop.

Please note that this course is structured differently from the traditional instructor-led courses above. This course is designed for active, collaborative learners who are self-driven, motivated, flexible and enjoy sharing information and resources. There is less-instructor interaction and relies heavily on participant interaction. It focuses on using digital tools and strategies to support teaching and learning and enriching individuals’ knowledge through developing communities of practice across the state.  In this course, we will look at the 4Cs - Creativity, Critical Thinking, Communication and Collaboration; keystones for the 21st century classroom. This MOOClet:

·       Is learner-centered, focusing on participants’ professional needs in different disciplines and grade levels
·       Focuses on participants as creators of content as much as they are “consumers” of content
·       Involves extensive peer-to-peer communication
·       Includes a larger number of students than a typical facilitator-led course and less facilitator feedback.

These courses are available at no cost to North Carolina educators and will be facilitated by DPI professionals. The courses are completed entirely online. Participants are expected to meet all weekly deadlines in order to receive CEUs. Partial credit will not be given.  For a description of the courses and associated CEUs, and on information on how to register, visit our website https://rt3nc.org/
