The purpose of Hospital/Homebound services is to offer a short term instructional program for eligible students who have been diagnosed with a medical or psychiatric condition that confines the students to the home, hospital, or other restrictive setting for at least three weeks (3) or more.

Service is provided with the teacher liaison between the school and home when a physician (M.D.) documents a medical condition causing the student to be unable to attend school. The service is not intended to teach the child at home at the same level the student would be taught if in school or if the student was home schooled by the parents. It is not a substitute for attending a public school. It is an attempt to keep a student reasonably caught up with their school work so that when he or she returns to school, the student can completely catch up with the direct assistance of his or her classroom teachers.

These students must be able to participate and benefit from an instructional program to be eligible for these services. Teachers provide instruction designed to help the students continue progressing academically in the core curriculum while away from their regular school program.
