The Johnston County Education Foundation provides administration for privately funded scholarships and awards that benefit JCS staff members.
The Tom I. Davis, Jr. Leadership Award

Past recipients include the JCS Bus Garage Parts Manager, a teacher assistant working towards classroom certification, and teachers working on their Masters degrees in a variety of fields.
Lucille Crocker Coates Scholarship - $500
This scholarship is for Johnston County Schools Teacher Assistants who are at a four-year college or university, in a program for teacher licensure.
This scholarship is available through the generosity of Steve and Betty Ramos, who honor the memory of Betty's mother, Lucille Crocker Coates.
The Barbara Clapp Character Award- $50
This award is open to teachers and their students in grade 5. Each teacher who chooses to participate is to direct his/her students to write a one page essay on "Honesty". The papers must be typed. Each teacher is asked to submit only the top papers from his/her students – whether there are five top papers or only two. The authors of the two top essays in the county will each receive $50.
The Joyce Wade Scholarship- $500
This scholarship is given in honor of Mrs. Wade for her tireless dedication spanning 38 years to the students and staff of Johnston County Schools. Long known for her ability to inspire those around her with a poem, parable, or a quote, Mrs. Wade can best be remembered by these words from Morrie Schwartz, “Do the things that come from the heart. When you do, you won’t be dissatisfied, you won’t beenvious, you won’t be longing for somebody’s things. On the contrary, you’ll be overwhelmed with what comes back.”
