BOE recognizes students and staff at February meetingThe Johnston County Board of Education recognized several outstanding staff and students at their Feb. 14  meeting. 

Every month students and employees who have demonstrated excellence in the classroom, in athletics, in schools, or in the community are recognized by the board. 



Character Ed

The Johnston County Board of Education recognized students who demonstrated fairness during the month of February. The students who were recognized on the front row (from left) are Hannah Cheney from Corinth-Holders Elementary, Tyris Riggsbee from Cooper Elementary, and Grace Murillo from Dixon Road Elementary. The students who were recognized on the back row (from left) are Chesney Stein from Johnston County Middle College High, Frank Tincher from Corinth Holders High,  James Daniels from Johnston County Early College Academy, and Norma-Lopez Bravo from Johnston County Career and Technical Leadership Academy. 

Jude Reece

The Johnston County Board of Education recognized Jude Reece, a student at Smithfield Middle, for his accomplishments at the 2017 Annual MATHCOUNTS Competition. Reece was the Overall Individual Student Winner and the first place Countdown Winner at the 2017 competition.

Math Counts

The Johnston County Board of Education recognized the McGee’s Crossroads Middle MATHCOUNTS team, Team Exponentials, for their accomplishments at the 2017 MATHCOUNTS Annual Competition. Team Exponentials was the first place team at the competition. Those who were recognized (from left) are Emily Niewoehner, Thomas Smith, coach Elizabeth Strickland, and Carson Cain. Team members not photographed are Oscar Liu, and coach Lesley Facello.

Jacob Scott

Cleveland High student Jacob Scott was recognized at the February Johnston County Board of Education meeting for being named to the 2016 North Carolina AP All-State Football Team. 

Mitch Hall

Clayton High student Mitch Hall was recognized at the February Johnston County Board of Education meeting for being named to the 2017 US Army All-American Bowl. 

Shrine Bowl

South Johnston High student Fabian McDonald (left) and Clayton High student Mitch Hall (right) were recognized at the February Johnston County Board of Education meeting for being selected as players in the 2016 North Carolina Shrine Bowl.

Feb EOM

The Johnston County Board of Education recognized Powhatan Elementary custodian Marissa Barnes (left) as the Classified Employee of the Month and Cleveland High math teacher Keri Strickland (right) as the Certified Employee of the Month at the February Meeting.
