PLEASE let us know if you have any questions by writing us a note in the agenda. Please review your students' homework BEFORE signing the agenda. Signing the agenda tells us you have seen grades and that you know what is going on in our classrooms. THANKS!

We are having issues with students not using the bathroom when given the opportunity. Please review our schedule to see how often we go to the bathroom as a group. When students leave the classroom to go to the bathroom, they are missing instruction and directions.

PROBLEM, QUESTIONS?

Please remember that if you have questions or concerns I cannot fix them if I don't know about them. I am available by phone at school from 7:45-8:15 and from 3:45-4:15. I'm always available by email. If you email me and I do not respond with in one day, please send it again or write me a note. Sometimes we have problems with the school server and receiving outside email.

KIRK MARTIN

A friend of mine referred me to Kirk Martin's web site when I was asking her for some information about some student behaviors I was seeing. I have had several opportunities to email Mr. Martin and he has been very helpful. His newsletter is awe inspiring and will cause you to think. Below is a quote from his web site and a link to the same site. "We know emotional kids inside and out because we have worked with over 22,000 children, educators and parents from all 50 states and twelve countries-including Great Britain, Germany, France, Spain, Japan, New Zealand, Australia and Canada. Don't let the name fool you. We work everyday with families and teachers of challenging, emotional children whether they have a label attached to them or not. If you have a child who is oppositional, anxious, combustible or inattentive with difficulty focusing, our timeless principles work for all children."

He originally started working with parents and students who are labeled ADHD, but his tips and information are useful for all families. It will help all of us to better understand our students. I am also including the link where you can sign up for his newsletter.

I'm still working on trying to get him to come to our school. Also, if you would like to have him come to Riverwood Elementary School, please let Mr. Knott and Mrs. Fisher know. They are the people who set up staff development for each year. I have given them information about several workshops I think our school needs. In the case of inclement weather conditions and school has not started please check the local tv stations or listen to the radio. If there is an early dismissal, due to weather, I will be unable to call you. Make sure you and your child know what to do and where to go in case we need to dismiss early. Keep in mind the phone lines will be busy and that it will be difficult to get through to make any last minute arrangements.
