Mrs. Larkeysha M. Sheppard / Principal

Hello and Welcome to McGee’s Crossroads Middle School!

I am honored to serve the students, staff, and community of MXMS as your principal this school year. It is great to be a part of the Mustang community! We are pleased to have you as a part of our school family. At MXMS, we want every student to succeed, and we are committed to working with you and your parents/guardians to ensure that you learn and grow in a safe, orderly, equitable, respectful, caring, and loving environment.

As a middle school student, you will undergo many changes during your years here. There will be new friends, new teachers, new knowledge, and a variety of opportunities. Please get involved! This is YOUR SCHOOL! I encourage you to take full advantage of all MXMS has to offer!

During middle school, expectations and responsibilities will increase. We have very high expectations for both academic and behavioral excellence. You will be encouraged on a regular basis to achieve your highest potential. A successful middle school career requires discipline, organization, focus, and commitment. The MXMS staff is dedicated to providing a learning environment that is fun, engaging, challenging, and meaningful to meet your needs while developing leaders who will succeed in the 21st century. We hope that with clear expectations, a strong instructional program, and the support and partnership of your family, teachers, and community, you will make the most of your middle school experience.

It is important that you enjoy your middle school learning experience because it prepares you for learning on the high school level and beyond. Lifelong learning improves your quality of life and enables you to gain knowledge and learn new skills throughout your life. Many people continue their education for personal development and fulfillment, while others see it as a significant step toward career advancement. I began my lifelong learning journey after graduating from Southern Wayne High School in Wayne County as a student at Mount Olive College majoring in Business Management and Administration. I continued my learning journey as a graduate student at North Carolina State University obtaining a Master’s degree in School Administration. I enjoy learning and will continue learning to enhance my personal and career development. I love the power of education! Nelson Mandela said it best, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

My educational career has afforded me the honor of serving high school students for eighteen years, teaching high school Business and Information Technology at South Johnston High School and Princeton Middle High School. Thereafter, I served middle school students for four years as an assistant principal at Princeton Middle High School.

I encourage you to seize the day! Take every opportunity you have to achieve high and to be your best. I look forward to building relationships with all stakeholders in Mustang country and I look forward to seeing each student achieve and accomplish great things as we work together as a team to equip all students for success! Feel free to contact me with any questions, concerns, and comments you may have regarding MXMS. We are mustang proud, and mustang strong!

Respectfully,
Larkeysha M. Sheppard

Mrs. Centora Holder / Assistant Principal

Hello and welcome to McGee’s Crossroads Middle School!

My name is Centora C. Richardson Holder and I am honored to be the new assistant principal at MXMS. I am excited about this upcoming school year and the opportunity to serve the students, staff, and community of MXMS.

I began my teaching career with Johnston County Public Schools and have taught in the middle school setting for more than a decade where I served in many leadership roles. I believe that middle school is a transitional time within a student’s educational career, yet the most influential. I love middle school because I have learned that these years are the most impressionable, and the impressions made will impact student learning, growth and achievement for years to come. We are charged with the challenge to prepare them for years far beyond this time in their lives. I accept the challenge and I am a strong advocate for education because it was education that served as the key that unlocked doors and afforded me several opportunities in my life.

I am a native of Johnston County and a proud graduate of Smithfield-Selma High School. I received a Bachelor of Science from Mount Olive University in Business Administration. After my employment with Johnston County Public Schools I continued my education and earned a Masters of Art in Business Education and a Masters of Science in Instructional Technology from North Carolina A&T State University. Continuing on my educational journey and desire to have a greater impact on students far beyond my classroom lead me to enroll at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro to obtain a Post Master's Certificate in School Administration.

I am looking forward to a successful school year and the relationships that we will foster with all stakeholders for the success of the students in our community. We are Mustang PROUD!! We are Mustang STRONG!!
