Dear Students, Parents, and School Community,
It is with great pride and excitement to continue serving the students, parents, families, staff, and community in my role as Principal and Lead Learner of North Johnston Middle School. As a former teacher at North Johnston Middle School for nine years, it is an honor to work alongside the staff and community to ensure our students are successful.
After graduating from Smithfield-Selma High School, I attended Appalachian State University on a teacher scholarship and majored in Middle Grades Education with concentrations in Mathematics and Language Arts. While serving as a classroom teacher, I obtained National Board Certification in Early Adolescence Mathematics. I later returned to North Carolina State University and obtained a Master's Degree in School Administration. During my tenure as an administrator, I was honored to be recognized as the 2014 JCPS Assistant Principal of the Year and the 2018 JCPS Principal of the Year. While serving as JCPS classroom teacher, I was recognized as a Flame for Learning Semifinalist in 2004 and 2006.
I have been dedicated to a career in education for thirty two years. Prior to serving as an administrator at Smithfield Middle and North Johnston Middle, my experiences included teaching Math, Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies to middle school students in Johnston and Wayne Counties for nineteen years. From 2001-2010, I taught eighth-grade Mathematics and Language Arts at North Johnston Middle School, where I also served as a team leader, cheerleading coach, MATHCOUNTS coach, and a teacher leader.
I work closely with the Assistant Principals, Amanda Surratt and George Beasley, to ensure that North Johnston Middle School continues its quest for excellence. The administrative team continues to focus on creating a safe and orderly environment for students and staff where students are provided with relevant and personalized learning experiences in preparation for careers, college, and life.
