Mrs. Leigh White

Welcome to the home of the Riverwood Elementary School RAMS! For those of you visiting our website for the first time, please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Leigh White and I am proud to call myself a Riverwood RAM. I am a native of Knightdale and attended Wake County Schools. Our family has lived in Clayton for eleven years. Our three children attend Clayton area schools! Our children are involved in various types of sports and activities. In our spare time, we spend as much time as possible at the beach and the lake!

I received my undergraduate degree in Psychology from North Carolina State University. I went on to obtain a Master’s Degree in School Administration from North Carolina State University. Go Pack! I spent my teaching career in Wake County and taught 2nd and 5th grades. I began my administrative career in Johnston County Schools at Clayton Middle School as an assistant principal for four years. I then became principal at Meadow School and had the pleasure to serve there for five years prior to joining the Riverwood family. I am honored to be the principal at Riverwood! Even in my fourth year as principal of this great school, I am still constantly in awe of the support we receive from our parents and community members! Thank you so much! Your support is truly appreciated! I encourage you to maintain an active role in our school and in your child's education.

I have been an educator for twenty years and have been blessed to be called to this great profession. Please know that I am here first and foremost for the benefit of our most important assets, which are the wonderful students that come through our doors each day. I wake up each morning excited and committed to supporting our students, our school, our staff, our community, and our parents. Helping children to succeed in all they set out to do is my passion. I love what I do and it makes my day when students enjoy coming to school, have a love of learning, and feel like they are an important part of our school family. I am also a huge advocate of reading. If you walk into my office, you will see a bookshelf full of books for children. I love to watch a child learn to read and become a lifelong lover of reading. You will often hear me tell the students to read, read, read!

Mrs. Shannon Pawlak

Welcome all Riverwood Rams!

I am so excited to be serving you in my role as Assistant Principal. This is my 27th year in education and I am humbled and elated to spend this next year with you all. I was a Science teacher for 20 years and actually worked here at Riverwood as a Science lab teacher several years ago. I have experience teaching Science, Math, Social Studies and ELA in both Elementary and Middle School. I served as an Assistant Principal at both the Middle and Elementary level and have more than 6 years' experience in administration. My own children both attended Riverwood and I have a huge love for this school, the staff, the community and especially the children, who are the pride and joy. My son is a Senior and attends Corinth Holders High, my daughter is going into her first year at UNC Chapel Hill. My husband is also an educator and has been an 8th grade Social Studies teacher at Riverwood Middle for more than 20 years. I see myself as a servant leader and a lover of learning. My role is to make sure all students are safe and can grow academically and socially. I take my job very seriously and I have a huge heart and passion for education and Johnston County Public Schools.

In my personal life, I love to travel with my family and spend as much time in nature as I can. I am still a Science teacher at heart and love taking tons of wildlife pictures. I love all living things, and have an especially unusual love for bees, spiders and snakes. I love to explore and learn every day and hope to share that passion with some of you throughout our time together. I believe learning should be an engaging experience that elicits curiosity and passion, no matter what age you are.

I am grateful for this opportunity and thank you for entrusting me with the children and bigger Riverwood Family.
