Employment Application Procedures

Johnston County Public Schools has launched a new employment application system. The new North Carolina School Jobs powered by People Admin, provides an innovative way to streamline the hiring process. Applicants will experience an enhanced, user friendly system when applying for positions. To apply for career opportunities visit the Johnston County Public Schools Job Board and sign-up for or login to Johnston County Public Schools Jobs powered by People Admin.

Current Johnston County Public Schools Employees must be on the transfer list to apply for a position within the school system. After being on the transfer list, an employee may apply for position(s) through Applicant Tracking by completing an abbreviated application.

A.L.C.S.

Administrative Application

  • Applicants for administrative positions (principal, assistant principal, and central services) will need to apply online and upload any required documents.

    • The application can be found online through Applicant Tracking.

    • A resume is required. You will upload your resume to your online portfolio.

    • Three electronic references are required. Additionally, three written letters of recommendation are preferred.

Licensed Application

  • Applicants for certified positions (teachers, counselors, social workers, psychologists, speech-language pathologists, etc.) will need to apply online and upload any required documents. 

    • The application can be found online through Applicant Tracking.

    • A resume is required. You will upload your resume to your online portfolio.

    If you do not currently hold a North Carolina teaching license, you must also submit a copy of your out-of-state license, transcripts, and test scores (if available). If you are not a licensed teacher but are interested in entering teaching through an alternative route, please visit our Licensure page for information.

Classified Application

Applicants for classified positions (teacher assistant, office support, custodial, food service, mechanics, grounds workers, etc.) will need to follow the steps below. If you have questions, contact Human Resource Services at 919-934-6031.

  • Employment Application

    • The application can be found online through Applicant Tracking.

    • An email address is required to complete the application. If you do not have access to an email account you will need to create one.

    • Provide a minimum of one supervisory reference on your application.  Be sure to give complete and accurate contact information.

    • References from friends, neighbors, and family members are not acceptable.

  • Supporting Documents

    • Teacher Assistants and Office Support applicants are required to submit a copy of their high school diploma, GED, or highest level of completed education. Upload this information into your online profile.

    • If you have questions regarding any of these forms, contact Human Resource Services at 919-934-6031.

A computer is provided in Human Resource Services for your use if you do not otherwise have access or should you need assistance.

Substitute Application

Application Steps: 

  • The application can be found online through Applicant Tracking.

  • Applications are reviewed and a criminal background check is conducted on qualified applicants.

  • Individuals with a high school diploma or college degree (but without a teaching certificate) will also need Effective Teacher Training.

  • Upon completion of the application and background clearance, you will receive the volunteer hours form via email, to complete your 18 volunteer hours. These must be completed at one school and be signed by the principal.

  • Confidential reference checks are then performed on qualified applicants.

  • If approved for employment as a substitute teacher, the applicant will be invited to attend New Substitute Teacher Orientation.

  • Upon completion of orientation and submission of required forms, the new substitute teacher will be entered into the absence management system, AESOP. The new substitute teacher will claim their JCPS ID account which will allow access to Frontline/AESOP, and begin substitute teaching.

Application Information and Materials:

  • Employment Application

    • The application can be found online through Applicant Tracking. Be sure to apply specifically to the Substitute Teacher job by typing "Substitute Teacher" into the search bar.

    • An email address is required to complete the application. If you do not have access to an email account you will need to create one.

    • Provide a minimum of three professional references with one reference being your current or most recent supervisor.  Be sure to give complete and accurate contact information, including email addresses.

    • References from friends, neighbors, and family members are not acceptable.

  • Effective Teacher Training (ETT) through either of the following:
    (Upon completion of ETT, the applicant should upload the certificate of completion to their online application.)

    • App-Garden University

      • This course is available online for applicants to purchase for $29.00.

    • Johnston Community College

      • This course is available through the community college for $70.00.

  • Volunteer Hours

    • A total of 18 volunteer hours is required. This form will be sent to you via email, once we receive your verification of completing the ETT course and we complete your confidential background check.
