Katie McAnally

Katie McAnally, the lead counselor at West Johnston High, was named JCPS October Certified Employee of the Month.

Katie McAnally works tirelessly daily for the students and staff of West Johnston High. As the lead counselor, she has taken that leadership role and ran with it. McAnally not only counsels the students, but she also helps the teachers and staff as well. She always smiles, and knows what to say to help with any situation.

She has an open door policy, and drops everything to help students at any time of the day. Being a counselor, McAnally has to wear a lot of different hats, such as scheduling and career counseling. She shows the students that she cares, listens to them because she truly wants what is best for them.

Involved in various areas of the school, she has chaperoned various field trips for different clubs, classes, and departments. McAnally even goes to band classes and plays the clarinet with the band students. She is not a counselor who stays behind an office door, she is visible and a part of the school.

She helps the school run and function by helping promote the importance of caring for one's mental health. McAnally came from Pitt and Wake counties,  and Johnston County is ecstatic to have her as an employee.
