January 2024 Character Ed Students

Character Education is a priority for Johnston County Public Schools. Through a variety of means, schools in the district promote character education through rewards, bulletin boards, presentations, and interactive lessons. Each month the Johnston County Board of Education recognizes students who have demonstrated good character. Below are the students recognized for January 2024.

Greyson Frank

5th Grade - Corinth-Holders Elementary

Compassion - Treating Others as you would like to be treated.

Greyson Frank exhibits all the character traits, so choosing just one took a lot of work.  However, Compassion is the one that best describes him.

He always strives to set an excellent example for his peers by demonstrating compassion every day.  Frank does this by listening to others without judgment, encouraging his fellow students, always speaking with kindness, and being happy for others' success. Always willing to lend a helping hand, he accepts others for who they are.

Because of the compassion that Frank exhibits daily in conjunction with his leadership skills, he was named Team Captain of his Battle of the Books team.  When encouraged to discuss his thoughts about his team, Frank always does this with the utmost respect for his classmates.

Jordyn Williams

5th Grade - Thanksgiving Elementary

Respect - Understanding that all people have value as human beings.

Jordyn Williams is typically very quiet and shy, yet she is quick to warm up and is a shining presence in the classroom. Respect is a trait characterized by the understanding that all people and things have value and are worthy of great care and kind treatment.  Williams exudes those qualities.

She sees and values her fellow classmates, is responsible, and holds herself accountable for how she treats others and school materials.  Williams shows self- respect in how she takes initiative for her learning, and seeks answers to unknown questions or ideas.

Finally, Williams' teachers note that she is so incredibly respectful to her teacher and all the adults she interacts with.  They see her as a leader and model student for her classmates and everyone else in her school.  Her teachers are so proud of all her hard work and effort in the classroom today and everyday.

Ozzy Blais

5th Grade - River Dell Elementary

Self Discipline - Doing your best in all situations

Ozzy Blais could be nominated for any and all of the character traits, but the one that stands out the most is Self Discipline, which means doing your best in all situations.

Blais is kind, considerate, hardworking, and respectful. Well liked by his peers and teachers alike, he is reliable, responsible, and is kind and compassionate to everyone.  He never wants anyone to feel left out or out of place.

During his time at River Dell Elementary, Blais has shown tremendous growth, and has had tremendous success due to his work ethic and perseverance.

Blais's teachers shared that he is a humble student, and never asks for any type of recognition.  He just wants to be his best, and he wants to help others in their quest to be their very best as well.

Preston James

12th Grade - Corinth Holders High

Self Discipline - Doing your best in all situations

Preston James is an outstanding senior who exhibits self-determination in everything he does.  He goes above and beyond to make Corinth Holders High the best it can be by helping everyone.

James is an active Key Club and Mu Alpha Theta member, and a math tutor for Evening Academy. As a tutor, he meets each student's needs and supports them in learning the math content. If James sees an issue, he presents solutions to help solve them without a second thought.

He is brilliant at creating workable schedules. As a junior, James saw the club schedule needed an overhaul, and presented a first draft. Even is the situation is complicated, James works hard and never gives up.  He sets goals and works hard to achieve each of them.

River Horn

6th Grade - Archer Lodge Middle

Self Discipline - Doing your best in all situations

River Horn is a true personification of what it means to be an Archer Lodge Middle School Gator. She was chosen to represent Self Discipline because she always does her best.

When she is not persevering through challenging questions in math, Horn is more than willing to help others do the same.  When her classmates don't understand a problem, she jumps in to guide them to the right answer because she wants others to do their best as well.

Horn is also a student athlete who gives her team her best showing each game.  Whenever she completes her assignments, Horn asks her teachers for more so she can continue to learn!  She is a true friend and great representation of the Archer Lodge community.
