On March 18, 2024, Archer Lodge Middle Schools (ALMS) Athletic Director Brad Betterton was recognized as a recipient of the Middle School Athletic Director of Excellence Award at the North Carolina Athletic Directors State Conference for his significant contributions on the middle school level in the field of athletic administration in the state.
On Wednesday, March 27, 2024, he was presented with the award by Johnston County Public Schools (JCPS) Director of Athletics and Driver Instruction Josh Plisko and Principal Matt Johnson, during a ceremony in the school’s gymnasium. He was surrounded by family, coaches, student athletes, administration, and district leaders.
The inaugural year for the Middle School Athletic Director of Excellence Award, Betterton was one of only six middle school athletic directors from around North Carolina to be recognized. He was nominated by ALMS Principal Matt Johnson. “Brad Betterton is the epitome of what a NCADA Middle School Athletic Director of Excellence should represent,” Johnson stated. “He is a true team player with a mindset that all students need to have the opportunity for success.”
Betterton proudly calls himself a Gator, and has served the ALMS school and community for over 15 years, in many roles from teacher to administrator, and most of them as the athletic director. He has shared his knowledge and guidance with other JCPS athletic directors. He has an incredible love of his school and is always thinking of ways to improve athletics, and be a source of pride in the community.
"For Coach Betterton to receive this statewide award shows how much he cares about his students, coaches, and community and I am happy for him,” said JCPS Director of Athletics and Driver Education Josh Plisko. “Archer Lodge Middle School and the district are lucky to have him."
The NCADA Middle School Director of Excellence Award is presented to individuals who are to be recognized for excellence and significant contributions in the field of athletics within their Region, State, and across the nation. The association is committed to recognizing the outstanding efforts from athletic directors and the critical role they play in developing well rounded student athletes. "I would also like to thank the NCADA for what they do as an organization to support all the athletic administrators in the state," Plisko added.
Coach Betterton is truly making an impact in the lives of many and certainly making JCPS better!
