Character Education is a priority for Johnston County Public Schools. Through a variety of means, schools in the district promote character education through rewards, bulletin boards, presentations, and interactive lessons. Each month the Johnston County Board of Education recognizes students who have demonstrated good character. Below are the students recognized for October, 2024.
Aaliyhia Tentzohua Rivera
3rd Grade - Dixon Road Elementary
Respect - Understanding that all people have value as human beings
Aaliyhia Tentzohua Rivera does a beautiful job at demonstrating respect. She consistently treats her peers, as well as adults, with kindness and thoughtfulness. She has such a kind and positive attitude in everything she does. Rivera shows respect for her working environment by always having her desk neat, clean, and organized.
She can be placed in any group to work with any student(s). The way she works with a group is amazing to watch. Rivera is a role model student and often inspires other students to follow suit.

Ali Alkhatib
5th Grade - McGee’s Crossroads Elementary
Respect - Understanding that all people have value as human beings
Ali Alkhatib consistently exemplifies the characteristics of a respectful student and individual. His positive demeanor and infectious smile have made him a friend to all. He is a natural-born helper, and fosters a warm and inclusive classroom environment.
Alkhatib is always willing to lend a hand to classmates who may be struggling, offering assistance and encouragement without hesitation. This quality highlights his compassion and reinforces a sense of teamwork and community within the classroom.

Cathrynn Lowe
8th Grade - McGee’s Crossroads Middle
Compassion - Treating others as you would like to be treated
Cathrynn Lowe is a student-athlete all year, which allows her to showcase her kindness to others on and off the field. She was a member of the track and field team, and constantly encouraged her teammates to remain focused, kind, and respectful.
In school, Lowe is in good standing with her academics and strives to give her best effort, treating her teachers and peers with respect. In class, she does not discriminate, and treats others with kindness, no matter their ability. Lowe embodies the character trait of compassion with grace and enthusiasm to all.

Violet Whoolery
12th Grade - West Johnston High
Compassion - Treating others as you would like to be treated
Violet Whoolery was chosen to represent the West Johnston High community due to her exceptional leadership of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) which has grown significantly under her guidance as part of their leadership team.
Through Whoolery's compassionate leadership, she consistently goes out of her way to support others, whether by offering encouragement, organizing projects that bring people together in words of praise, or being a listening ear. Her ability to lead with empathy has not only strengthened the FCA community, but also continues to inspire a culture of kindness and mutual respect throughout the school.

Preston Jones
5th Grade - West View Elementary
Self Discipline - Doing your best in all situations
Preston Jones has shown he is a leader among his peers. He shares his ideas and helps his friends in and out of the classroom. Jones also shows dedication to his school work and to building positive relationships with other students that are in his classes.
No matter what assignments or challenges Jones is presented with he always gives 110%. He has been seen responsibly sweeping the cafeteria floors after lunch each day. Without being prompted, he even cleans underneath tables his classmates did not use.
