How does being named Classified Employee of the Month make you feel?
As an employee it makes me feel appreciated, and as a person it’s an honor to be Employee of The Month.
How does your job affect the children’s overall school experience?
One of my primary duties is to secure substitute teachers when classroom teachers are absent. This is an important part of my job because it is imperative that our students have educators in their rooms each day. Placing the right person in the classroom to help students learn is very important to me.
Why is it important to build relationships with the students? How do you do that?
It’s important for all staff to build healthy relationships with students because students learn best when they have great relationships with staff. The same goes for me as a front office employee, because a lot of times I am the first person many of the students and parents see when entering the school. I try to remember some specifics about each student, such as their name, their teacher’s name, and other fun details. These encounters help to build personal relationships.
Why is collaboration and teamwork with the school’s administration, staff, and co-workers?
I think collaboration and good teamwork is the foundation for a great school for our students. Our school works as a team to provide the best educational experiences as possible for our students. I am part of a wonderful team who work hard to serve our students and families.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
What I like about my job is that I learn something new everyday, not only professionally, but as a person. Being in an environment which allows me to interact with many people and learn new things is so rewarding.
What would you say to those thinking about joining the JCPS team?
Education is all about loving the children you are educating. You have to love kids. I would also tell them that JCPS is a great place to work and requires you to be flexible and willing to help wherever it is needed.
