Character Education is a priority for Johnston County Public Schools. Through a variety of means, schools in the district promote character education through rewards, bulletin boards, presentations, and interactive lessons. Each month the Johnston County Board of Education recognizes students who have demonstrated good character. Below are the students recognized for November, 2024.
Vivi Perry
5th Grade - East Clayton Elementary
Dependability - Keeping your promises
Vivi Perry is a remarkable young leader who consistently demonstrates hard work, responsibility, and resilience. She diligently completes all her assignments, and is an active participant in all of her classes. Not only is she reliable in her own efforts but also displays a positive attitude and willingness to assist others.
The motto at East Clayton Elementary, is prepare, adapt, succeed. Perry embodies these values every day as an East Clayton Explorer, and her efforts have not gone unnoticed. Her courage in the face of challenges and ability to step up to the plate speaks to Perry's admirable character.
Hailey Lowery
5th Grade - West Clayton Elementary
Self Discipline - Doing your best in all situations
Hailey Lowery is an outstanding student known for her self-discipline and leadership. She actively seeks challenges and strives to improve her school and community. Lowery engages in various activities, including violin lessons, singing in the chorus, mentoring younger students through Bulldog Buddies, and founding a successful debate club for fourth and fifth graders.
She proudly embraces her Lumbee heritage, participating in cultural events, making traditional crafts, and educating her classmates about American Indian contributions. Her impressive dedication and character make her a valued member of her school and community.
Emelyn Casey
5th Grade - Cooper Academy
Responsibility - Being accountable for your own actions
Emelyn Casey is an outstanding student who challenges herself and classmates to perform at the highest academic levels. She leads by example through consistently coming to class prepared, completing all of her assignments, staying on task, and serving as a mentor to students who are struggling with classwork.
Casey is responsible for managing her time outside of school while engaging in numerous activities including piano lessons, cheerleading, and singing lessons. Cooper Academy is fortunate to have students like Emelyn who demonstrate 100% effort to grow as a student and as a person.
Michai Rawlins
12th Grade - Clayton High
Compassion - Treating others as you would like to be treated
Michai Rawlins is the president of the Bridge Club, and also he organizes and oversees volunteer opportunities with Cooper Academy, Clayton Civitan Club, around Clayton High School, and other local organizations. He interacts well with the staff and students during these events.
He is always looking for an opportunity to help others, make a difference in his community, and give back to the community that raised him.
Jessica Aguilar Ventura
4th Grade - Wilson's Mills Elementary
Respect - Understanding that all people have value as human beings
Jessica Aguilar Ventura always goes over and beyond expectations of what she is asked to do. She is a model for other students around her. Aguilar Ventura is the epitome of respect because she is such a considerate person, works well with others, and is constantly willing to lend a helping hand.
Aguilar Ventura is an open and honest person who puts others' needs before her own. She is dependable and leads others well. She takes on many tasks, including cleaning and organizing materials without being asked. Her teachers are exceptionally proud of her achievements.
