Linda Edmundson signs MOU with Johnston Community College

 Johnston County Public Schools (JCPS) and Johnston Community College (JCC) have partnered to provide students with the opportunity to earn the Elementary Education Residency Licensure Certificate.

On Thursday, November 14, 2024,  JCPS Chief of Human Resources Linda Edmundson and JCC Vice President of Curriculum Instruction Dr. Marc David signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) making the program official. 

The Elementary Education Residency Certificate curriculum provides a course of study leading to the development of the general pedagogical competencies needed to become certified to teach by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.

Students participating in the program will study courses such as Educator Preparation Practicum, Effective Instructional Environments, Integrated Curriculum and Instructional Strategies: Math/Science, Integrated Curriculum and Instructional Strategies: Social Studies/ELA, Literacy Development and Instruction, and Technology, Data, and Assessment.  

In addition to obtaining licensure, students must complete pre-service training, pass the state required assessments, and the criteria included in the North Carolina Teacher Evaluation System. 

The program is the newest educational program afforded through the collaborative efforts of JCPS and JCC, highlighting the mutually shared passion for education and the thriving relationship between the two educational institutions.
