South Smithfield Elementary becomes an Authorized International Baccalaureate World School for Primary Years Programme

Johnston County Public Schools proudly announces that South Smithfield Elementary is an Authorized International Baccalaureate (IB) World School for Primary Years Programme.

The IB Primary Years Programme at South Smithfield Elementary World School delivers instruction through the lens of inquiry-based learning. The program also teaches children at the elementary level conceptual learning in addition to content-based application.

South Smithfield Elementary's vision for the programme is to empower students to reach their highest potential in the classroom and the world by building relationships with others, acquiring knowledge through inquiry, making a positive contribution to society, and being internationally minded and embracing diversity.

The South Smithfield Elementary feeder pattern includes Smithfield Middle and Smithfield-Selma High, which also have IB authorization. This means those students now have IB options beginning in elementary school and continues throughout their educational careers.

"It opens up the world to options and opportunities," said Principal Chad McLamb.
