On Saturday, March 1, 2025, Johnston County Public Schools (JCPS) held its annual job fair at Smithfield-Selma High. The event welcomed more than 200 people from as close as Johnston County and as far away as South Carolina, Virginia, and Georgia looking to become part of the JCPS team.
Administrators from all 48 schools and various central office departments were at the fair, greeting candidates face-to-face to discuss job opportunities, answer questions, and sign early contracts. The job fair allowed prospective classified, certified, and administrative JCPS team members to learn more about each school, department, and the school district. Of the more than 200 attendees, 16 signed certified early contracts for the 2025-2026 school year.
"The recent Johnston County Public School Job Fair was a tremendous success, attracting a diverse pool of applicants eager to join the district."

Cara Dietz signed an early contract for the 2025-2026 school year. She will graduate from Campbell University in the spring with a bachelor's degree in special education, and she came to the job fair with a sizable amount of knowledge about JCPS.
When Dietz was a freshman, a JCPS representative spoke to the newest teaching majors about the district’s beginning teacher program and the exceptional children’s programs, which immediately caught Dietz’s attention. That presentation allowed her to ask key questions about the school district.
Attending the job fair cemented that JCPS was the right fit for her. “I liked seeing all of the administrators,” she said. Dietz is excited about joining the JCPS family, mixed with some jitters. “I have all the feelings going on right now,” she added.
The annual job fair is one of many initiatives in Johnston County Public Schools’ ongoing effort to ensure that highly qualified educators are providing top-notch instruction and services to students each day.
“The recent Johnston County Public School Job Fair was a tremendous success, attracting a diverse pool of applicants eager to join the district,” said Shelley Siegert, JCPS Director of Recruitment and Retention. This event not only enhanced recruitment efforts but also fostered connections that are likely to lead to improved educational outcomes for students through the addition of passionate and qualified staff.”
