Midalys Albornoz named the March 2025 Classified Employee of the Month

Mrs. Midalys Albornoz is the Classified Employee of the Month for March 2025!

As the receptionist at Riverwood Elementary, Mrs. Albornoz greets everyone with a smile and a "how can I help you?" attitude. Her calming presence provides immediate relief to parents, students, and staff when coming into the office. She takes time to learn the details about the students, families, school, and community.

Mrs. Albornoz wears many hats and contributes greatly to the flow of the school day. She ensures the safety of everyone who enters the building, answers all the incoming questions, is a proven team player, and has the best dismissal announcements. She supports the school mission by always being eager to learn more and is never afraid to ask questions.

Raised in Puerto Rico, Albornoz graduated from the University of Puerto Rico with a bachelor’s degree in Office Management and Administrative Processes.  She moved to North Carolina 2 1/2 years ago from Colorado, and loves traveling and hiking.

As the Classified Employee of the Month, Mrs. Albornoz shared her excitement about receiving the award and her passion for serving at Riverwood Elementary.


How does being named Classified Employee of the Month make you feel?

I’m honored and grateful to be named the Classified Employee of the Month. This recognition inspires me to keep striving for excellence.  

How does your job affect the children’s overall school experience?

As a receptionist, my role is crucial for making a positive first impression by being friendly, calm and professional. This mindset helps manage stress and remain calm, even in difficult situations. Sometimes, students are nervous to report to the office, but I ensure that they feel welcome, even if they didn't make good decisions.

Why is it important to build relationships with students and staff?  How do you do that?

It is important to build relationships with students, staff, and families at Riverwood Elementary, because a positive relationship improves mental health, promotes learning and successful teamwork.   The way I build positive relationships is I try to listen carefully, show empathy and practice patience.

Why is collaboration and teamwork with the school’s administration, staff, and co-workers important? 

Teamwork and collaboration are important because they affect all of our students in becoming exemplary citizens in the future.

What do you enjoy most about your job?  

What I enjoy most about my job is serving and facilitating the public, students and supporting staff. For me, serving others is a very rewarding experience that generates satisfaction.

Don't hesitate!  There are opportunities for growth, recognition and a positive work environment.
