Due to the hazardous road conditions caused by the recent winter weather event, Johnston County Public Schools will be closed for all students tomorrow, Friday, January 24, 2025, as well as all extracurricular activities. The district will operate under Condition 3 of the inclement weather plan.
For JCPS staff, this day will become an optional teacher workday. Schools and county offices will open at 10 AM.
As always, safety is our primary concern and after driving our roadways and receiving guidance from local safety officials and NCDOT, we have been advised that though the main roads within high-traffic areas may be clear, many secondary roads within the rural areas of the county are expected to still have hazardous conditions through Friday, making them unsafe for JCPS transportation use. In addition, many of our campuses have shaded walkways, parking lots, and areas that must continue to be assessed by our operational staff before students may safely return.
Extracurricular activities and community facility use will resume on Saturday morning, however, we still encourage site visitors to travel safely and be cautious while on campus, particularly in shaded areas.

Ana Almaguel Pupo is our next Character Education Award recipient for December!👏
Almaguel Pupo is in the 8th grade at Clayton Middle School. Originally from Cuba, she has been in the US for just a year and a half. She is sweet, caring, optimistic, and a GREAT classmate. Almaguel Pupo is always willing to guide, help, and tutor other newcomers. Not only has she excelled in the classroom, but her standardized test scores have also shown her exceptional growth!
Almaguel Pupo is being recognized for perseverance because few students in our building have had to literally start from scratch and continue to exhibit excellence in all that she does.

Out of an abundance of caution, please be advised that safety protocols for tonight’s Clayton High versus Willow Springs High varsity football game will be as follows:
Campus Entry:
All game attendees will be required to enter campus via Fire/Rescue Drive ONLY near the tennis courts. All other entrances will be blocked. Attempting to enter through other entrances will result in delays, as vehicles will be redirected to the appropriate entrance. The entrance gate will open at 5:45 p.m.
Game Entry:
To gain entrance into the football game, ALL students at all grade levels and all minors under the age of 18 are required to present their school issued ID or enter the game with their parent(s). Student(s) being accompanied by a parent , as well as parents of their student(s), will be provided a wristband. The wristbands are to be worn for the duration of the event. Stadium gates will open at 6:00 p.m.
No Student Drop-offs:
Parents are expected to enter the game with their student(s) and remain with their student(s) for the duration of the game. There will be no student drop-offs.
No Re-entry:
Students and parents will not be allowed to re-enter the game once they exit the gates.
Please know that these safety measures are taken out of an abundance of caution and to ensure that our event spaces are safe for all attendees.

We are proud to announce that 89% of our schools received a school letter grade of A, B, or C according to recent data, surpassing the state average of 66%. This is a tremendous increase since 2018, when 65% of our schools were identified as the same.
Through dedication and hard work, three schools moved from a letter grade of C to B, and four schools moved from D to C! 👏

Donations from our schools for the Hurricane Helene Relief filled three dump trailers, three 3 box trucks, two pickup trucks, and two vans! This outpouring of kindness, compassion, and generosity is what our school system is built upon. We thank everyone involved in this effort!

Today our Facility Services team gathered supplies from our schools, which were Hurricane Helene Relief donation sites. In a few hours, these supplies will be transported to Western North Carolina.
Thank you to the many, many students, parents, and staff who have responded promptly and compassionately.
