The Spanish Club at Johnston Community College organized a Celebration to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month on October 2nd, 2024. It occurred from 11:00 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. in the Johnston Community College Tart Building. The celebration was made possible by the Johnston Community College Spanish Club, the Johnston Community College Cosmetology Club, and the sponsors.
Students at Johnston County Career and Technical Leadership participated in the celebratory event. They joined in the voting for the Poster Contest, where different countries were displayed on posters relating to Hispanic Heritage Month. The students voted for their favorite poster to win. Additionally, they got to enjoy live music, explore books being sold, and eat delicious cultural food. The JCC Cosmetology Club presented a Cultural Fashion Show showcasing clothing styles from different cultures and also displayed beautiful mannequin heads and Nail Art. Students also watched a dance performance and listened to guest speaker Dr. Ana Peña-Alvarez.
Hispanic Heritage Month is a time for many people to rejoice in their culture and celebrate their heritage. People with Hispanic heritage show their pride during this month. It is a time for many people to learn about other people’s heritage and culture. This event helped represent a reflection on culture and history.
During this Hispanic Heritage Month and in the future, it's important to take the time to ask the people around you about their Hispanic heritage. Heritage is a crucial part of who someone is. Though it may not capture a person's entire journey, it shows an important part of their story.
