Congratulations to Jamie Biddix, our Outstanding First Year Teacher Nominee! She is a first year English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher at Selma Middle School (SeMS). She learned to speak Spanish after traveling to Central America, where she taught ESL to students in rural areas. There she immersed herself into the culture, and opened up a Yoga Studio which allowed her to serve the community in a meaningful way. In addition to being a dedicated teacher, she also teaches yoga to our students during club day, with a focus on improving the students' flexibility and ability to concentration.
When asked about her nomination, she stated, "I am very grateful for the community of teachers I have at Selma and in the district who have helped support me this year. I have been fortunate enough to have a team of teachers who have helped me with the ESL program at school, along with the Mult-classroom Leader (MCL) and a mentor who have helped me every step of the way. In addition, I feel like the county ESL department has been a huge encouragement and helped me so much to learn how to do my job. My teaching goals are to continue to see the growth of children as they learn English and exit the ESL program. I can’t wait to see what next year brings after such a good first year of teaching."
Jamie will compete against other first year teacher nominees and hopes to be named the 2024 Outstanding First Year Teacher of the Year by Johnston County Public Schools.
Good luck Jamie, the Railblazers’ are rooting for you!
