Usha Subramaniam teaches 8th grades science. In the five years that she has worked at Selma Middle, she has been inspired and feels that she has been very productive in building relationships among staff and students, and in helping students reach their academic goals. After 25 years of faithful service as a teacher with JOCO, she has decided to retire. In her words, "I am honored and very proud to retire from Selma Middle School. I have learned so much from our learning coaches about the intricacies of teaching. I am very grateful to them. Selma Middle School students will always have a special place in my heart. I am happy to have had them as my students for the past five years. They have always risen to my expectations. I have learned a lot from them in return."
Trina Walker has been at Selma for a little over a year now. She began her journey as an 8th grade Social Studies Teacher and is currently serving in the role as an 7th Math Teacher. She is passionate about motivating her students to believe in themselves and empowering them to try new things. When asked why she believe teacher attendance is important, she replied, "one of the reasons I feel attendance is so important is that it provides a level of consistency to our students. Many of our students look forward to their teachers being at school and it gives them a sense of stability on how they will be taught that day. For myself, being here daily gives me the ability to keep my students on task and on pace with the curriculum. I feel we all win everyday, when we show up for ourselves and our students!"
Our school community spotlights and appreciates Usha Subramaniam and Trina Walker. We are glad they choose to #BeSelmaStrong for students and staff daily!
Well done and thank you for your hard work!
