Good evening parents and students! This is Mr. Jewett, principal of Thanksgiving Elementary School, with some important information. I am excited that Thanksgiving Elementary School has been recognized as being in the top 10% of all schools in North Carolina for student growth. Our school has been in the top 5% and top 10% of schools for growth each year we have been open. I am so proud of our students, staff, parents, and our community for all of their hard work and support for our school. We have our fall picture day tomorrow, Friday, September 13th. All students will have their picture taken tomorrow. Information was sent home previously on how to order your pictures online, but you can also call our office if you need that information. I am excited to announce that we will be having monthly celebrations for our students who follow our ROAM expectations and their classroom rules. We are calling these Buffalo Bashes and our first one will be on Friday, November 1st. Students will be eligible to participate in this celebration as long as they do not have any office referrals or minor referrals from today through October 31st. Our VIP carpool raffle through our PTA is going on now through this Sunday, November 15th at midnight. You can purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win either morning VIP, afternoon VIP, or a golden ticket for VIP morning and afternoon. This is a way of skipping our carpool line for the winners of the raffle for the remainder of our first semester. Please visit our Thanksgiving Elementary School PTA Facebook page for details. Thank you for your time and I hope you have a great evening!

Good evening parents and students! This is Mr. Jewett, principal of Thanksgiving Elementary School, with some important information. I am excited that with all of our students now at school, we have been able to finish our carpool before 4:30pm both days. That being said, here are just a few reminders to help things go even fast and help get more cars off of Lynch Rd. We have approximately 70 more vehicles in our carpool than this time last year. Please pull as closely as you can to the vehicle in front of you in two-lane carpool access road. Thank you for being understanding and respectful to our volunteers helping to move cars off of Lynch Rd. Also, please make sure your student can fasten their seatbelt or pull into our parking lot to fasten seatbelts so we can move our lines as quickly as possible. Also, only students are able to enter the building unless a parent has a meeting or is volunteering. All students need to be dropped off in carpool or unloaded from a bus. Please do not park and walk student to the cross-walk or to the front of the building, you must go through carpool. Speaking of carpool, our PTA is having a VIP carpool raffle that will provide the winners the ability to skip the line. Information will be coming home this week and you can visit the Thanksgiving Elementary School PTA Facebook page for details. Our Fall Picture day is on Friday, September 13th. These are the pictures that will be going into our yearbook and information on how to order will be coming home soon. We have our annual Curriculum Night on Tuesday, September 24th from 6pm to 7pm. This is an evening that our teachers will be going into depth about the different curriculum, assessments, and activities your child will be interacting with throughout the school year. Please come out and join us! If you need to change how your child will be going home, please email or send your child's teacher a Rooms message by 1pm that day. Teachers may not be able to check messages or emails late in the day while they are teaching and supervising students. And finally, our 3rd grade students will be taking their Beginning of Grade assessments starting this Thursday, September 5th. This is part of the state's testing requirement so please make sure they get a good night's sleep the day before. Thank you for your time and I hope you have a great evening!

Good evening parents and students! This is Mr. Jewett, principal of Thanksgiving Elementary School, with some important information. Tomorrow is the day that all of our kindergarten will start school. Please be prepared for our carpool to run slower than the previous days, but that will only take a few days to get our time back to normal. Kindergarten parents, please remember that we have a Boo-Hoo/Yahoo Breakfast for you guys tomorrow in our cafeteria at 9am after you walk your child to the classroom. Also, in regards to carpool please be aware that I will have one of our wonderful volunteers in our carpool lane helping to pull cars off of Lynch Rd. Tomorrow we will have over 400 cars in carpool and I am afraid we may get to Hwy 42, so he will move cars when he can to help and I just ask that you please be patient if he moves cars in front of you so we can help keep Lynch Rd. as clear as possible. Also, please make sure you have your carpool tag in your car, we will not accept pictures of cards on cell phones. And finally, I wanted to remind you that next Monday, September 2nd is Labor Day Holiday and we do not have school for students. Have a great evening!

Good evening parents and students! This is Mr. Jewett, principal of Thanksgiving Elementary School, with some important information. Our first two days of school have been great. The students have done a tremendous job following instructions and working hard in the classrooms; I have been so proud of them! Half of our kindergarten students will be coming to school tomorrow and the other half will be coming on Thursday; then all of them will start on Friday. We will allow our kindergarten parents only to walk students to classrooms the rest of this week. Only students in our 1st through 5th grades will be allowed in the building from now on unless you have a meeting or are volunteering. Please know that we will be adding a lot of cars to carpool with kindergarten starting, so please be patient. Carpool ran great today, but it will be slower until our kindergarten students learn the routine. To help with our carpool line, if you need to assist your child with buckling, please move your vehicle to one of the parking spaces in our parking lot. Getting out to buckle your child in our carpool lane will slow us down and I am trying to get all of the cars off of Lynch Rd. as quickly as possible. Also, with new kindergarten students riding the bus, please give a 10 to 15 minute grace time for pick up and drop off. Thank you all for your support and helping to make the start of another school year a great one!

first day of school
Good evening parents and students! This is Mr. Jewett, principal of Thanksgiving Elementary School, with some important information. Alright, here we go! Tomorrow is the first day of school for our 1st through 5th grade students. Students can enter the building at 8:30am (that earliest that students can enter the building throughout our school year). We will allow for any 1st through 5th grade parents that need to walk their child to class to do so tomorrow. However, starting on Tuesday, August 27th, only students will be allowed to enter the building unless you are volunteering or have a meeting. Dismissal will be at 3:55pm tomorrow and everyday. If you are new to our school and have not experienced carpool or our weapons detection systems we have in place, please visit our school's website. On the homepage in one of the banner images you will see a link for carpool and another one for our security measures. It may be good for you to watch those brief videos before tomorrow. We have our Kindergarten Open House tomorrow from 6pm to 7pm for our kindergarten parents. We ask that just parents attend if possible due to the amount of information and forms that you will be completing during this time. I look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow. Have a great evening!

Also, please be patient with us for carpool pick up in the afternoon next week. It will go slower that it will the remainder of the year as we get our students back into a routine and we get our kindergarten students acclimated to the dismissal process. If your child is riding a bus, please know the pick up and drop off times will vary the first few weeks as they are adding students to routes. Please have students at the stop around 15 minutes prior to the time on the bus pass and know the drop off time may be around 15 minutes off of the drop off time on the bus pass. Please make sure you download the bus app and the Bus Remind system so you have information on any delays or changes. Our Kindergarten Open House will be next Monday, August 26th from 6pm to 7pm for kindergarten parents. We will begin in the cafeteria and then you will go to your child's classroom. We do ask that only parents attend this event if possible due to the information being shared. The students will do their orientation day on either Wednesday or Thursday. Good evening parents and students! This is Mr. Jewett, principal of Thanksgiving Elementary School, with some important information. I can't wait to see all of our 1st through 5th grade students tomorrow evening for our Open House. Here are some important details in regards to tomorrow's Open House that will help. First, you will visit your child's teacher in the room number that was indicated on the postcard you received in the mail. If for some reason you did not receive a post card you can call our office tomorrow prior to Open House and we will be happy to give you that information or you can ask a staff member in our front hallway when you arrive to Open House and we can help you then too. If you need help with buses or to register for before or after school care we will have staff in our cafeteria. Our PTA will have a information table in the front hallway, please stop by and sign up to be a part of our PTA. We will have representatives for boy scouts and girl scouts in the hallway going to the cafeteria if you would be interested in those programs. We are also excited to announce that we are bringing our Backpack Buddy program to help provide food for families in need. You are welcome to donate non-perishable food items tomorrow at our Open House for that program as well. We will have a collection site just outside our front entrance. We will also have a slushy food truck at our front entrance so you can get a cold treat after visiting our Open House. Parking will be tough, so if there are not any more spaces available, you are welcome to park on the grass areas and you can use the right hand lane of our two-lane carpool entrance up to the white line before getting to the front of our building. But please only use the right lane to park, we have to have one lane free for emergency vehicles if they are needed. It is hard to believe another school year is here and I can't wait to see you all tomorrow!
