Read Across America Week and the Readathon are HERE! Pajamas tomorrow and cozy DEAR (drop everything and read) time is on the schedule. Have you taken a few minutes to create your child's Readathon account yet? Get ready! It's time to CELEBRATE READING!
Good Evening Bulldogs,
This is your Principal, Mrs. Barnes, with some important information. I recently sent out our March Bulldog News which includes reminders, upcoming events, and celebrations. Don't forget that this coming week is Read Across America Week. Students are encouraged to dress for each special day as we get excited about reading! Our PTA has their next Spirit Night at City BBQ on Monday, March 4 from 11-8. We will not have school for students on Tuesday, March 5. It is a Teacher Workday.
Save the Date for our next opportunity for Student Led Conferences - March 28. Also, we want our 5th Grade Parents to go ahead and save the date for our Promotion Ceremony on June 4 from 6-7 PM. I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
It's officially March, so it's time to get reading for our Readathon!

Read Across America Week is next week! Get ready for spirit days and fun reading times !
Your student should have come home with an envelope with School Store information sometime this past week. We are asking you to complete option 3 on your information sheet (shop your normal retailers including Walmart, Old Navy, or Hobby Lobby to name a few). By shopping at your normal stores, our PTA receives a small portion of the total. This will last an entire calendar year and students have the ability to earn prizes for participation until the end of the school year.
We want to stress that we are not asking for donations at this time. We realize that times are tough and we don’t want to take away from any of our schools traditional spring fundraisers such as American Heart Association, Art to Remember, and our Readathon. This is simply a way to shop at your normal stores and help our school receive a portion of the purchase — kind of like a year long spirit night 🙂

Last night, JCPS celebrated the 2024 Leading with the Heart recipients!💝
The event, inspired by Mike Krzyzewski’s book, “Leading with the Heart,” recognizes those staff members throughout the school system that demonstrate leadership, compassion, and heart on a daily basis. One person from every school as well as central services was nominated by their peers, because of their unwavering commitment and dedication to their role.
We honor the 53 amazing members of the JCPS family for their work that clearly does not go unnoticed! Thank you!✨
Stay tuned for an event recap video...

The fourth grade visited the NC Symphony on Tuesday, February 20. They had studied the composers, instruments, and music examples in music class with Ms. Dixon, so seeing the instruments in person really enhanced the experience. The event was paid for by Johnston County Schools so our kids were very appreciative of the free experience!
It was so great to celebrate Mr. David Vargas at the JCPS Leading with the Heart Ceremony last night. On paper Mr. Vargas is our Head Custodian but to WCES he is so much more! We appreciate all that you do for us Mr. Vargas as you lead with your heart each and every day.
We are so excited to celebrate alongside Ms. Kim Sigmon as she was recently nominated for JCPS Counselor or the Year. Ms. Sigmon is currently the only counselor we have at WCES, serving close to 800 students each and every day. Thank you for all that you do Ms. Sigmon!
We are so excited to share that we held our first Debate Club Meeting this week. Students initiated, researched, and are implementing the club. It was a great success and we look forward to continuing to empower students as they dive into their passions and make things happen!
5th Grade Parents!!! This is an opportunity you may want to look into.
Innovation Academy at South Campus is the only Choice Middle School for Johnston
County Public Schools. We are a three-year program that serves 6th-8th grade. Our
school extends an invitation to all incoming 6th graders in Johnston County. Students will be expected to meet criteria comparable to that of the JCPS Choice High School
programs and will be given priority access to those programs. The target groups for
enrollment include first-generation college students, potential AVID participants, and those demonstrating a strong work ethic and significant potential. This inclusive approach aims to create a diverse and dynamic learning community that fosters all students' academic excellence and personal growth.
Good morning! Bus 756 will be approximately one hour late this morning. Bus 683 will run the route.
Read Across America Spirit Week is coming up March 4-8th. Check out the image to see the theme for each day!
March is National Reading Month, and we are celebrating with a month-long Read-a-Thon! Our goal is to encourage students to read as much as possible while keeping it fun and rewarding. Families can share their student's progress with family and friends and give money as a motivator to read. All donations will go toward adding more books to our school library and to special projects around the school. Let's celebrate reading!
Bus 172 will be approximately 20 minutes late this morning.
